Getting Back On The Horse

Okay, the visitations and funeral is done.  I have a race a week from Sunday.  I haven’t ridden since 1984 (that’s what it feels like).  So today, I hopped on the mountain bike and hit the trail. I didn’t do any specific exercise, just rode the trail.  Enjoyed it.  I did get to test the new GPS/HR monitor.  Trying to get past the learning curve to see if I like it.  Before I start,...

A Bum

A Bum

That’s what I feel like.  I haven’t ridden in the past few days and I’ve had terrible eating habits.  The next three days I have visitation and a funeral for my mom.  On top of all that I have a really bad cold.  All I want to do is sleep.  I did buy this: This is the Garmin Forerunner 305 Heart Rate Monitor/Cadence/GPS.  I bought it from Amazon because it was only $200 there. ...

I’m having a hard time keeping myself motivated.  Got out of work early today, so I jumped on my road bike to complete the exercise scheduled for today.  I did both workouts, but I just can’t get my HR into Zone 4 or 5 for any significant amount of time.  I think my anaerobic endurance is much stronger than my muscular endurance.  I thought it was opposite, but my muscles seem to give well...

Week of the 2nd – Training

September 4, 2007
By

Still trying to play catch up with my training so I’m altering this weeks schedule a bit.  I’m still in the Build 2 phase so I need 8 hours.  I highly doubt I’ll get that. Monday: Off (woohoo) Tuesday: Power Workout: Suppose to do spin but didn’t make it.  Instead did a 1.5 hour ride on the road at moderate intensity.  No specific intervals, just got out and road. Wednesday: Off Thursday: Muscular Endurance:...

Not Much This Week

September 3, 2007

Given my last post, my week did not turn out that good for training.   I did get a 45 minute spin class in on Tuesday, which is good.  I didn’t get back on the bike until Saturday when I did a short road ride.  My body was tired from lack of sleep and being emotionally drained, it was hard to put in a long ride.  Sunday I did a lap at CSGA, but that’s...

My New Road Bike

My New Road Bike

Another new family member. Introducing the 2007 Specialized Roubaix Comp. I currently own the 2004 Specialized Allez Elite and I had no intention of upgrading. But then I walked in to Village bike and saw this beauty on the shelf. Um, hello. It was on sale too. It is a pricey bike, but I do 90% of my training on the road, so it will get used. Plus I sold my 2004 on eBay...

Real Life vs. Training

August 20, 2007
By

This past week was a terrible training week. I was sore from my previous workout so I took an extra day off. I spent a lot of time with my mom on the other nights so it was hard to make up that time. Instead of 5 hours of training, I got in 30 minutes. I hope that doesn’t come back to haunt me. I am now entering my Race week. I need 5...

Joe Friel Mountain Bike Training Bible

Joe Friel Mountain Bike Training Bible

In my quest to train smarter and harder, I picked up this book.  Just about every chapter pointed out something I did wrong this past season when it came to my training.  First big error was overtraining.  This is easily the biggest error most people make.  Not enough RR days.  Second biggest mistake was lack of structure.  I would just get on my mountain bike and ride as fast as I could every time. ...
