I thought this was interesting. I saw a similar time table on what he went through (interviews, pictures, etc) before Ironman.
Well, my goal was under 2 hours, but wasn’t close: 2:08. I thought I would have it but started slowing near the end and really slowed down the last mile. The last mile is all single track and one big climb (wood chip), thus it’s a slower section for everyone. My weakness has always been tight single track and once again it shows. Looking at the times of the other races, it’s...
Other than Iceman on November 5, the race season is over. Triathlon season went well with PB’s in every event except Reeds Lake Triathlon. It was everything I could do just to finish that race. Bed ridden day and a half after the race. Not sure what happened. Mountain bike racing was blah. Triathlon training really takes it’s toll on my mountain bike performance. I’ve talked with other triathletes that have made the switch...
After pre-riding the trail today, I’ve made the call to skip the race. Just have no real desire to do it. Some will say it’s because of the MMBA, which could be part of it. But this one is run by Brent so not really and MMBA race. I think I’m just burnt out on racing and I think if I force myself to go then it will make the burn-out worse.
Well, had the Maybury Time Trial this past Saturday. The course is a lot of switchbacks and blind corners. Course knowledge definitely has the advantage in this race, but not an absolute advantage. One thing I learned is that I need to get more time on my tires. I do not trust these tires right now. I have no idea why since I’ve been riding them all season, but I was just all ‘brakes’ on...
Seems like my racing schedule has slowed down. I missed doing the Stoney TT race last weekend (or weekend before). Always enjoyed that trail. I’ve barely made it on the east side to ride any of the trails and it doesn’t look like I’ll be hitting Addison or Maybury this year either.
Despite the insane heat, I managed a personal best on Saturday. 1:53:15. Almost 9 minutes faster than last year. Technically in 2009 I had 1:15:13, however that was with a wetsuit during the swim. No wetsuit this past weekend, which is consistent with last year. My swim was close to 90 seconds faster, my bike was 1mph average faster and my run insanely faster. I also cruised through transition, having the 22nd and 23rd...
Strange not to have a race this weekend. It’s my second year missing the Boyne Marathon, which is a race I love, but it’s just too costly to go up there. Between lodging and gas, it’s a $500 weekend. Plus everybody I know that use to do it, don’t go up there any more either. Then I was going to do the Grand Haven Triathlon, but passed on that so I could golfing with...
Very good year at triathlons. Very poor year at MTB racing. splitting up training into three disciplines is killing my MTB race season. I have 9 races completed, which includes one running race (Fifth Third River Bank Run 10k) and three triathlons (2 Xterra’s and 1 Olympic triathlon). I have 10 more potential races, however many have been removed since I was banned from the MMBA (see schedule below). I wouldn’t mind doing Boyne...
