Update & Snowboarding

December 10, 2007

Well, I’m holding up to my weight lifting schedule.  I’ve started to pick up the leg exercises.  You learn quickly which muscles you don’t use mountain biking.  Some days I hurt all over.  I’ve also been playing a lot of basketball, which is fun and gives me a different cardio workout.  I haven’t touched the bike since November 11.  Per my training schedule, I’m suppose to start spin class next week, however I think...

Random Thoughts During Off-Season

December 6, 2007
By

Why is it that Ozzy can’t hold a coherent conversation, yet you put him on stage and you can understand every word he sings?  Also, who would have EVER thought the Prince of Darkness would be considered a lovable teddy bear type dad?  Oh, it’s snowing pretty good, going to try to get out on the snowboard this weekend.  -

Bench Press

December 3, 2007
By

I’ve always wondered why Bench Press is considered the universal measurement for how strong a person is.   Every morning, I see the same people doing the same exercises:  Bench press, triceps and biceps.  Rarely do I see people rotate to shoulders, back and legs.  Don’t even think about core exercises (abs, etc).  There is a new guy showing up at the gym who is doing bench all the time.  His upper body is HUGE. ...

Race Strategy

November 27, 2007
By

During the last few races, especially Iceman, I’ve learned a race strategy that really worked for me.  I’m sure if I had a coach, I would have learned this long ago. First is interval race vs. steady state (I mentioned this in another post).  This is also known as timed attacks.  When I did my best time at Yankee Springs (52 minutes), I did it using my computer (Garmin Edge) to signal when it was...

Training In Review

November 27, 2007
By

Well, reflecting on what my season goals were for 2007 and my actual results, I’ve left a lot of room for improvement.     Here were my past goals and the result: Yankee Springs in 55 minutes.  I did 57 minutes in TT race, but did do 52 minutes this month.   Fort Custer in 1:27.  I did 1:29 minutes.  The other goals were for Hanson Hills and Maybury, but the rainy conditions made those goals...

The Week Off

November 19, 2007
By

And I still got up at 4:30 a.m to go to the gym. How dedicated (or stupid) am I? Couple of good things happened this past weekend. First, Michigan lost to OSU. I can usually support Michigan during this game, but I could not this year. Being a MSU fan and listening to Hart’s comments, I wanted nothing more for him to leave UM 0-4 against OSU. Not only did they lose, Hart was...

Workout Schedule

For the next few weeks I’m focusing on weight lifting again.  I get to the gym around 445am, which helps get the workout done so I don’t have to do it after work.  Here is the plan for much of November and December: Monday: Weights:  Chest, Triceps, Biceps, core class.  I following this schedule to keep things mixed: Week 1:  Heavy, low reps.  Week 2:  Light, high reps.  Week 3: Tri-sets.  Then repeat.  Core class...

The Season Is Over!!!!

November 14, 2007
By

Well, I am somewhat pleased with this years results. I based most of my goals off of last years performance, however I really under estimated the speed of the 35-39 age group (was previously in 30-34). This age group is much faster. Given my points, I would have finished …., however being in the faster age group, I finished 6th. The top two in my group just blew us away, so I’d assume they...
