Weekly Workout

My teaching schedule has me running around a lot to different campuses, so my training time has suffered during the week.  I also went through a bad case of insomnia over the past couple weeks that caused me to sacrifice my morning strength/swimming workouts.  Insomnia is something I’ve dealt with my entire life.  Some people say they have insomnia because they can’t sleep.  It’s more than that.  It’s your body not shutting down.  Not...

2012 Race #1: Barry Roubaix

Race results:  2:24:31 Placement:  99/129 Average Speed: 14.9 TSB (Biking/SBR): –6.9/-6.3 Morning of the race went fine.  Love having a local race that doesn’t require me to get up at 4am or spend money on hotels.  Breakfast included couple of egg whites, toast and chocolate milk.  I was all packed and ready to go, but still had to put my bike on the rack.  While doing this, noticed front tire was flat.  Pumped it...

The Wonders of the PMC

I wrote about the Performance Management Chart earlier this year.   This chart has become one of my most valuable training tools.  Below is my PMC for the past 90 days.  The Since my training year started on December 5, there are two big curves right at the beginning of the chart (yellow line and purple line) The yellow line represents my training stress balance (TSB) and the purple represents my acute training load (ATL). ...

Are You Above The Rules?

If you ever want to start a heated debate on a triathlon forum, there are two things you can ask:  Should I do flip turns?  Should I shower before I enter the pool? Now, I don’t really care about flip turns since it’s a pool and I’m not racing in the pool.  However, I do care about the shower before swimming.  So I started to ask around and get the low-down on why some...

Official release information on the long awaited 10-speed grip shift.  The release date is sometime in March, but that is irrelevant.  Why?  Because SRAM has opted to rape their customers.   Here are the prices: XO grip = $225 XX grip = $295 Compare that to the typical 9-Speed XO grip that sells for a whooping $70.  There is somebody who has the ability to convert the XO 9-speed to 10-speed for roughly $90USA.  He...
